CBP releases 301 bond form instructions

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently posted CSMS #12-000228 to its website, updating the instructions for 301 bond form completion. The instructions can also be found at http://forms.cbp.gov/pdf/CBP_Form_301.pdf.

Avalon is an active member of the COAC bond subcommittee that helped develop the form guidelines, in collaboration with sureties, the NFC Bond Team and the brokerage community. If you are using Avalonís Web Merlin to generate customs bonds, no action is required on your part, as the instructions have already been built into Avalonís system.

As announced in our August 2011 Quest issue, CBP mandated the use of its updated 301 bond form on Jan. 1, 2012, and our Web Merlin secure Internet portal was updated with the new form well in advance of the deadline on Dec. 5, 2011. Avalon has worked closely with CBPís Revenue Division to ensure compliance with CBPís requirements for the new form. Web Merlin also has built-in business rules to proactively avoid bond rejections, and we have consistently maintained rejection rates well below the industry averages reported by CBP.

To further help you in avoiding bond rejections, our Centralized Bond Unit (CBU) is available to review bond application packages prior to filing them with the Revenue Division. Avalon has always taken a hands-on approach to understanding CBP regulations and keeping our bond program as easy and efficient as possible.

Our Web Merlin portal was designed to support our client, the customs broker. We continue to provide the best and most flexible surety technology in the industry. Our exclusive features support your bond program, including importer fraud protection, automated bond insufficiency notifications, centralized bond filing and tracking, as well as management/entry reports. Web Merlin also provides a single portal to manage all your Customs Bond and Cargo Insurance transactions. Routine business activities are streamlined, with revenue opportunities and efficiencies for you.
