CBP Shortens Time to Pay Bills

Customs & Border Protection (CBP) allows importers 30 days from bill date to pay for supplemental duties, taxes and fees, or vessel repair duties. CBP currently has 180 days (from bill date) to send the dunning letter to the importer, but starting September 5, 2017, they will do so in 60 days. This is a significant difference, so please make note of it and ensure that all bills are paid on time. Unpaid bills will be charged interest and importers will be placed on sanction. Additionally, if an importer has a pending refund and a delinquent bill older than 60 days, the refund will be applied to the delinquent bill.
