TIA Annual Conference

The Transportation Intermediaries Association’s (TIA) 30th Annual Convention and Trade Show had another successful turn out. Nearly 600 industry professionals attended the TIA convention on April 10-12, 2008, in Washington, D.C.

Avalon Risk Management, Inc. was honored to sponsor five $1,000 scholarships, which allowed first-time attendees the opportunity to attend the conference and gain knowledge to further develop their career in the logistics industry.

TIA and Avalon announced the 2008 Convention Scholarship Award winners during the opening ceremony. The TIA Foundation Board selected five qualified applicants for the scholarship award. The Board intends to offer the scholarship on an annual basis to promote education and industry involvement. Candidates must have never attended a TIA conference and have a minimum of two years experience in the
third-party logistics industry.

Congratulations to the following TIA scholarship winners:

  • Misty Hoffman, J.P. Jenks Trucking, Inc.
  • Steve Hogg, BTC Logistics
  • Sol Kim, Logos Logistix, Inc.
  • Annah Offtermatt, Global Highway, Inc.
  • Justin Reed, Convoy Logistics, LLC.

Avalon President, Scott Wollney and Senior Vice President of Sales, Michael Brown also received Industry Advancement Awards for Avalon’s contributions in developing the TIA’s Guaranteed Payment Program (GPP) – demonstrating Avalon's commitment to work with the transportation industry to meet evolving needs. The GPP guarantees a transportation broker's payment to carriers, shippers or other third-party logistics providers in excess of the $10,000 bond required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to conduct business.

To view a copy of the GPP brochure click here or for a GPP application click here. For more information, please contact Nancy O’Liddy, Director of TIA Services, at (703) 299-5711 or oliddy@tianet.org or Michael Brown, Avalon’s Senior Vice President of Sales, at (978) 740-5677 or mbrown@avalonrisk.com.

Avalon representatives were also available in the exhibit hall to discuss additional Avalon services and products such as the Combined Transit Liability (CTL) Program. Endorsed by the TIA, the CTL program combines Errors & Omissions (E&O), Contingent Cargo Liability and Contingent Auto coverage options specifically designed for Property Brokers. A variety of coverage options are also available for Property Brokers that also have international, warehouse or truck operations. For more information click here.
