NCBFAA Annual Conference

Solidifying the theme of “Education: the Strongest Link in the Supply Chain,” expert panelists at the NCBFAA’s 34th Annual Conference shared their insight on international trade developments and issues such as 10+2, export compliance, import safety and remote filings.

More than 460 record-setting attendees gathered at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. to learn from government officials, industry veterans and attorneys on how to best combat the challenges customs brokers and freight forwarders face in today’s business environment.

Avalon was proud to co-sponsor the NCBFAA 2008 Golf Tournament held that Sunday at Disney’s Osprey Ridge golf course, and although the tournament was stopped because of rain and lightning, the players enjoyed seeing how far they could hit the ball from the clubhouse. Avalon also sponsored Tuesday night’s beach themed dinner where attendees enjoyed a summer celebration with dancing and leis. Each guest received a scroll at dinner that contained a number for a $500 American Express gift card. The lucky winner was Olivia Carman of BCB International.

The Exhibitor Marketplace provided the opportunity to discuss Avalon’s comprehensive programs and demonstrate our latest technology such as Web Merlin. Attendees also registered to win a variety of giveaways. The following were lucky winners:

  • Al Giadys of Panalpina was the recipient of our grand prize, a TomTom GPS;
  • Rafael Orduņa of America’s Link Customs Services, Inc. won a digital picture frame; and
  • Lyn Vranic of Worldwide Express brought home photo frame coasters.

Issues raised in Monday’s panel on Risk vs. Reward revealed how developments such as 10+2, PM Statement, e-bond, bond insufficiency and the regulatory environment of the international trade industry are forcing customs brokers and freight forwarders to re-evaluate their role as logistics providers. As the industry evolves, education is critical. Avalon remains committed to providing the highest level of local service, with ten fully-staffed offices across the country, available to train companies on our products, services and technology.

Avalon manages the only programs offered jointly by both an “NCBFAA Preferred” insurance broker (Avalon) and insurance company (our sister company, Lincoln General Insurance Company). Avalon’s Combined Transit Liability (CTL) program written with Lincoln General also offers special discounts to NCBFAA members and Customs Certified Specialists (CCS).
