UCR – Registration begins

Registration for the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) agreement has started. Most states are requiring participants to register by May 15, 2008 and nation-wide program enforcement will begin June 1, 2008.

All private, exempt and for-hire carriers participating in interstate commerce are subject to the UCR and are required to pay a fee based on their fleet size. Unlike the Single State Registration System, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies are also required to register and will be charged a $39 annual fee.

Registrants can determine their fee based on the chart below.

Fleet Size (Include Trailers)  Fee Per Company
 0 – 2  $39
 3 – 5  $116
 6 – 20  $231
 21 – 100  $806
 101 – 1,000  $3,840
 1,001 or more  $37,500

With registration deadlines fast approaching, participants should apply as soon as possible. The application process only takes a few minutes and can be completed online at www.ucr.in.gov. Required information includes: basic contact information, type of business, fleet size and selection of base state. For additional information and guidelines for determining your fleet size and base state, please click here.

Revenue generated from the UCR is used for enforcement of motor carrier safety programs. Carriers choosing not to pay UCR fees will face penalties and may have their vehicles pulled off the road until the fees are paid.
