TIA and Avalon announce scholarship opportunity

Avalon Risk Management, Inc. is honored to sponsor five $1,000 scholarships for the 30th Annual Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) Convention and Trade Show in Washington, D.C. from April 9-12, 2008.

Scholarship funds may be used toward the cost of airfare and three nights stay at the Hilton Washington where the conference will be held. The conference registration fee will also be waived for scholarship recipients.

“Avalon values our long standing partnership with TIA,” said Michael Brown, Avalon’s Senior Vice President of Sales. “We recognize that TIA’s educational efforts increase industry knowledge, which in turn reduces risk. By sponsoring this scholarship, we hope to further increase interest in and awareness of TIA conventions and most importantly, the associated educational content.”

TIA President and CEO Bob Voltmann said, “This is a very exciting opportunity for which we are grateful to Avalon. Anyone who has attended a TIA convention knows that their attendance returns multiples on their investment. The Avalon scholarships will help individuals that have not previously attended a TIA Convention advance their business.”

The TIA Foundation Board will select five qualified applicants for the scholarship award. The Board intends to offer the scholarship on an annual basis to promote education and industry involvement. Candidates must have never attended a TIA conference and have a minimum of two years experience in the third-party logistics industry. The TIA Foundation Board must receive applications on or before Feb. 8, 2008 for consideration. Recipients will be notified by Feb. 22, 2008 and be provided with necessary information for redeeming the scholarship. Recipients must agree to submit a written summary after attending the conference summarizing their experience and explaining how their attendance will benefit them and further their career goals.

For an application or for more information regarding the scholarship, contact Cindy Amos, TIA Director of Education and Development at amos@tianet.org or (703) 299-5710.
